Origin of a Facebook Group

One day back in 2010, there was a random citizen of Eagle Mountain, Utah. We can call him Scott, because that’s his name. He was scrolling through his Facebook feed. As he did so, he realized that there was no group for the citizens of Eagle Mountain City. There was nowhere for people to complain about HOA overreach. Nowhere to post awesomely funny cat pictures. Nowhere for people to discuss the goings-on, seasonal fires, local elections, or other concerns affecting the good folks of Eagle Mountain city. After careful consideration, he created the group now known as Eagle Mountain City Citizens.
This group began to flourish. For several years, his wife, along with many other helpful and dedicated volunteers worked countless hours to cultivate and nurture the group. There were good times and bad times. Times when members of the group came together, and times when they bickered endlessly. The admins and mods worked through all of the natural disasters, the crazy growth in the area, and some head-scratching posts. They have worked together to grow and develop this awesome group into what it is today.
Eagle Mountain City Citizens was started by some guy and his wife. It is in no way affiliated with or supported by the city of Eagle Mountain. It is purely voluntary, and the volunteers are compensated in no way, except to know that they are doing their level best to contribute to the cause.
The rules are not arbitrary – they have all have their own origin story. When a moderator or admin takes an action, understand that it is because they want to help the quality of the group. It is not to meddle with, interfere, or control anyone. It is not influenced or funded by the city. It’s just a volunteer doing their part to serve the community. We all want the same thing. Let us do our best to ensure that this group is as good as it can be.

Welcome, Everyone!

Hey, everyone!  We are excited to announce that we are in the process of creating this new website!  We want to better support our Eagle Mountain City Citizens Facebook group.  We want to have the best group that we can for everyone.  We feel like this new website will be helpful to facilitate clearer and more consistent communication for our group members.  It will also provide a consistent point of reference for topics that come up frequently.

One thing we want to help with is to make the group rules as clear and understandable as possible.  On Facebook, sometimes there is only a limited amount of space to try and explain all the specifics of a rule.  On our own site, we can outline the rules with some additional explanation.  We will be including anonymous examples of posts that follow the rules, as well as examples of some that do not.  The idea there is to help everyone be on the same page.

Other resources will be added as necessary.  There are several things that our website will allow us to do that we cannot do in Facebook alone.  One of these things is polls where the options are an image.  For example, if we wanted to vote on a group logo, the polls in Facebook do not allow for this.

If you have ideas on what we can do to improve our group, please let us know by sending us a message on the Eagle Mountain City Citizen Admins page.
